Alvin Curl Stevens, age 101, of Fristoe, Missouri passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the E.W Thompson Health and Rehab Center in Sedalia, MO. Alvin was born north of Hermitage MO on December 8, 1924, the second child of Arlander Curl & Agnes Mae (Mawhiney) Stevens. He grew up on a farm near Cross Timbers and graduated from Cross Timbers MO High School in 1943.

After graduation he went to work at Union Wire Rope in Kansas City until he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. Alvin served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, where he worked as a brake specialist mechanic.

After returning home, he was united in marriage to Elda Klindworth on August 22, 1953, and together they raised one son, Doug. Following a brief period of farming in Galmey, MO, they began renting a farm near Fristoe, MO, in 1954. Three years later, in 1957, they purchased the property. Over the decades, they raised poultry, hogs, dairy cattle, sold hay, along with a cow-calf operation that they retired from in 2012, after almost 60 years.

Alvin served the Warsaw School District as a school bus driver from 1967 to 1989, serving more than 22 years. He loved all the kids who rode his bus, even long after they were grown. Alvin served as an ordained minister in the Community of Christ church for 68 years, including 16 years as Pastor of the Warsaw congregation. Alvin officiated numerous weddings and funerals throughout the community.

As a hobby, Alvin enjoyed training border collies and was an active member of several organizations including the Missouri Cattleman’s Association, Fristoe Saddle Club, Warsaw Ministerial Alliance, ASCS (currently FSA), and the American Legion. He and Elda also dedicated more than 25 years of volunteer service to the W.A.R.M. House in Warsaw.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Erma (Stevens) Cothern and brother-in-law Carel Cothern; one niece, Beverly (Cothern) Brooks; and two nephews, Joseph & Stanley Cothern. He is survived by his wife, Elda, they were married one month shy of 73 years; his son, Doug and wife, Sue, of Fristoe; a granddaughter, Devin Lake and husband, Kyle, of Cross Timbers; 2 great-grandchildren, Colton and Serena; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. His presence influenced so many lives, and after more than a century of wisdom, kindness, and love, he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Warsaw Funeral & Cremation, with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow at the Cross Timbers Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the W.A.R.M. House or the Alzheimer’s Association.
