Gary John Freeland, age 76, or rural Quincy, Missouri, passed away July 3, 2026, at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on February 18, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Gary lived on a farm near Greenwood, Missouri, in his early years, then moved to a farm near Pleasant Hill, Missouri, in 1964, and later moving to a farm near Quincy in 2021.
He was a partner and owner of Freeland Brothers Gun Shop, Inc., near Pleasant Hill for almost fifty years until 2020. He and his brother then opened and ran Freeland Brothers Sales and Repair Gun Shop in Warsaw, Missouri, until his death.
Gary Loved to shoot black powder firearms all of his life and was considered the “go to” person for any and all information or repair of them. He was also a good pistol and black powder gunsmith. Gary was a life member of the National Rifle Association and loved to go to gun shows. He also loved to hunt deer and turkey, although in later years he just loved to watch them on the farm. He also loved to put model planes and ships together and liked to play with his model trains. He was a history buff and had a lot of knowledge of World War II and the Civil War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry G. and Cathern Freeland, one brother-in-law, J.C. Tauch, and one sister-in-law, Lois Freeland.
He is survived by one sister, Cathern Tauch, of Kansas City, Missouri, three brothers, Harry L. Freeland, of Creighton, Missouri, Richard (Shria) Freeland of Grain Valley, Missouri, and Russell (Linda) Freeland, of Quincy, Missouri, three nieces, Leslie Ann Tauch, Lisa Freeland and Brandy Riggert, two nephews, Jeffery Freeland and Tyson Freeland.
A Celebration of Life for Gary will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the American Legion Post #217 in Warsaw, Missouri from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Gary will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Warsaw Funeral and Cremation.
