Obituary

Virginia (Blum) Coday peacefully passed away at home on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born in Knob Noster, Missouri, to Virgil and Leva Blum.

Dean and Virginia were married on March 21, 1955. When they first married, many doubted their union would last beyond 30 days; yet, 71 years later, they remained devoted and supportive of one another. Their marriage truly embodied the meaning of love and mutual support.

Many friends remember Virginia as a spirited and lively woman who could fill any room with laughter, always surprising those around her with her words. Until the end, she cherished kindness, grace, compassion, and a deep love for her family and friends.Virginia was a dedicated homemaker who raised and cared for her family before working at Grandview Dry Cleaners operating the pant press until the business closed. She later worked as a custodian for the Lee’s Summit School District before retiring. She enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing, and being with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Dean Coday, with whom she shared their home, their five children: Cheryl (Dan) Wilson of Warsaw, Missouri; Sandy (David) Bell of Warsaw, Missouri; James Coday of Greenwood, Missouri; Doug Coday of Greenwood, Missouri; and her brother, Virgil Dean Blum of Marshall, Missouri. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Leva Blum; her daughter, Debra Ann Richey (Pete); her in-laws, Jack and Ester Coday; son-in-law David King; and sisters- and brothers-in-law Mary Ann Blum, Pat and Mike Burch, and Peggy Coday.
